he is probably the most familiar santa claus to anyone under 50 cause he is 58 years old! can you believe that? (this ad first came out in 1950! santas come and go but he's still around..)

it's brick out in nyc. be careful if you're driving, the road is icy + dangerous! I am just so bad with vehicles this year, this is what happened yesterday after the jay chou concert (post later):

the road outside mohegan sun was so icy that it was almost like.. bumper cars, seriously. most cars were sliding and not getting anywhere. the bus that i was on got so smoky inside because of the friction between the tires and the ice that travelled up through the vent. at one point, my bus slid sideways, and blocked all three lanes and one of the back wheel fell off road. one limo also slid and blocked the highway at one point, then the rear of another limo slid and was scratching up against the boulders. one car flipped over. two cars crashed at the turn. another bus and a large van just gave up and blocked traffic. for smaller cars, some people had to get out and push. this all happened within less than one mile of each other.

it was just crazy.

most memorable fashion moments in 2008

winter break for a poor college student aka moi means.. go back to work and recover that bank account. although i should be thankful for getting paid for sitting in a room to just pick up phone calls and surf the web, i want to kill myself already!
i am not a tech savvy person but for the past 9 hours i've been sitting in front of the monitor at work, i do have to admit, (1) i've fallen in love with google and all that it has to offer, and (2) i've learned more in a day surfing the internet and blogs than i would sitting in a class.

oh OH, i've been stumbling on alot of photoshop sites, they are so simple and useful! like faking a lomo photo and drawing an ice cream bar.

my goal this winter break is to be a self-taught photoshop expert!

slocum muses

i don't know who and where they came from, but there's always something weird going on in slocum.


so, a typical architecture student is usually associated with cad, mayline, scale, olfas, xacto bla bla etc etc, but who would think of a little push PIN! it's quite interesting indeed. almost all the walls in slocum is made to be pinned. these little pins do matter. consider the supply-and-demand diagram, these little things cost more than $10 for a box (#&*@!#?), they're quite in demand at the bookstore.
this "installation" has been removed. its bits and pieces are now buried under the snow.

skin + bones

on my radar: the author of Skin + Bones: parallel practices in Fashion and Architecture, Brooke Hodge is speaking at slocum this tuesday 11/25 @5pm- "she will show how the two practices share common conceptual underpinnings and how they have borrowed tectonic strategies from each other".

i'm quite excited about this lecture, for one, they're my two biggest (if not only) interests in life. and two, "parallel practice" just sounds so comforting. it's the architect's link to the design world despite the huge difference in scale.. just a thought.

so yea, join me if you will.

speaking of cross-discipline in fashion and architecture, ms. starchitect, zaha hadid designs shoes now. wait, not JUST shoes, they're eco-friendly shoes. ooooh.

well, this collaboration with the Brazilian eco shoe company Melissa is interesting not because she's designing shoes, but they're sustainable shoes. zaha is just not the "green" kind of architect with her signature smoking portrait and provocative style. maybe this could lead somewhere, maybe.


in terms of the shoes, it has zaha's signature style carved on it (see the resemblance?). the patent black leather makes them much more bearable than it actually is. they could pass on the runway but i think i would be quite reluctant to put them on my feet. nevertheless, without the shiny black, they look like heeled crocs- horrific.

oh, the other thing is, the image above was taken from inhabitat while i was blog surfing, the building they used to compare the shoes with is zaha hadid's performing arts centre in Abu Dhabi, which is also my precedent for the current final project. what a coincidence. maybe it's a sign that i should do some work instead..

of bumming around at home. tricia and i haven't been able to chill out at home in a long time due to heavy work load. so last night, we dim/candle lit the apt, drank wine and listened to deep house music. it was quite nice i say. this is what it looked like:

and today's theme is christmas music and movies. i seriously want to end this post already so i can watch love actually and not listen to it. but since i'm mentioning zaha hadid already, i have to mention the..

Chanel mobile art container by zaha hadid in central park,nyc. tricia and i took a trip back to nyc just to see it! we went on sat but it was full, so we ended up waking up at 6am on sunday, which was the last day it was gonna be in nyc and it was definitely worth it! this mobile art exhibition was sponsor by coco chanel to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic 2.55 quilted bag. 18 inspired installations by international artists were displayed and connected into one personal mystic experience through an audio guide. there's no photography inside, so here are some exterior shots:
